We Started With a Question Nobody Was Asking.
Why does the same spice taste completely different depending on where it comes from —and why does nobody in the supply chain seem to care?
That question was the beginning of Basalious.
Founded in the UK and built on years of immersion in global agricultural markets, Basalious was born out of frustration. Frustration with a spice trade that had prioritised volume over virtue, speed over soul, and margin over meaning. We watched brilliant food brands compromise their products not because of their recipes, but because of what was inside the bag before it ever reached their kitchen.
We decided that wasn't good enough. So we built something better.
The Problem We Exist to Solve
The global spice trade is broken in a quiet way. On the surface, it looks efficient — containers moving between continents, invoices cleared, boxes ticked. But beneath that, integrity is being lost at every handshake.
Essential oils — the compounds that carry true aroma, flavour, and potency — degrade through poor harvesting, improper storage, and long, unmonitored supply chains. By the time a spice reaches a food manufacturer in Europe, it can be a shadow of what it was at origin. Colour faded. Aroma dulled. Nutritional value depleted.
Brands absorb this loss silently, compensating with additives or simply accepting mediocrity as the industry standard.
Basalious refuses to accept that standard.
How We're Different
We operate on a principle we call the 3% Rule — we only source harvests that meet the top-tier thresholds for essential oil content. If the aroma isn't there, the Basalious name isn't on it. Simple.
But quality assurance isn't just a number. It's a relationship.
Our team works directly with farming communities across South Asia and beyond — building trust at the root of the supply chain so that we're not buying from the open exchange after the best harvests are already gone. We're there before the season peaks. We know the soil, the farmer, and the harvest timeline. That intelligence is what we bring to our clients.
Every ingredient that enters our inventory then passes through a multi-stage laboratory verification protocol — testing for essential oil concentration, microbial safety, purity, and sensory performance. Only when a batch clears every stage does it earn the right to carry our name.
Our Mission: The Guardian of Flavour
We don't see ourselves as a middleman. We see ourselves as a filter — a rigorous, passionate, science-backed filter — between the farm and the factory.
Our mission is to ensure that the soul of every ingredient remains intact from the moment it leaves the earth to the moment it enters your product. We are the Guardian of Flavour: protecting the essential oils, preserving the natural colour, and maintaining the nutritional integrity that makes an ingredient worth using in the first place.
For our clients across Europe and beyond, that means one thing: when you open a Basalious shipment, you never have to wonder. You already know.
Our Credentials
Basalious operates with full regulatory authorisation and is proud to hold certification under APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) and FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) — ensuring that every product we export meets rigorous international standards for safety, quality, and traceability.
These aren't just logos on a page. They are the result of a commitment to doing this properly, every single time.
Built on Values, Not Just Volumes
We believe that how you source matters as much as what you source.
Our direct-to-producer model means a greater share of every purchase price stays within the farming communities that make our work possible. We are building a supply chain that is not just excellent, but ethical — one that we'd be proud to explain to any brand, any auditor, and any customer.
Because the best ingredients come from the best relationships.
